The woman wears a skirt, apron and head dress. The dress is made out of black or coloured poplin cloth; the apron is made from taffeta, silk or satin, the small shawl (fichu) is made from brocade with coloured fringes or black lace (tulle or white flowered satin for brides). The head dresses are made from muslin or very fine tulle or lace from Brussels or Calais.
On the RIGHT in this room note the display case of head dresses. In particular the bridal head dress, embroidered with seven motifs to remind the bride of the seven virtues she must show, namely : faith, hope, charity, temperance, justice, strength and prudence. Notice also the black edged mourning head dress and the working or everyday head dress (coiffe de travail).
